Keynote Speaker:
KC Mayor Quinton Lucas, “Mayor Q,” will be kicking off the 2022-2023 KC Engineering Club Monthly Luncheon Series on Tuesday, September 13, 2022.
Mayor Q was sworn in as the 55th mayor of Kansas City on August 1, 2019. As mayor, Quinton has prioritized making Kansas City’s neighborhoods safer, creating more accessible and affordable housing and public transportation, fostering a healthier community and improving basic services. Quinton created and chairs the City’s Special Committee on Housing Policy.
Born and raised in Kansas City, Quinton has spent most of his life in the city’s urban core. As a child, he moved often and experienced homelessness, sometimes staying with family or friends, or residing in a motel. Despite these challenges, Quinton remained focused on his schoolwork, earning academic scholarships to high school, college and Cornell Law School before returning home to Kansas City.
Since 2012, Quinton has been a member of the University of Kansas Law School faculty, where he served as one of the youngest tenure-track law professors in the country. He is active in the Kansas City community and volunteers extensively in area schools and organizations, including providing mentorship in local prisons.
Location: This event will be at a new location for this luncheon only. The event will occur at The Rockhill Grille Reserve Event Space which is located at 2000 Grand Avenue, Kansas City, MO 64108. The event space door is located on the west side of The Rockhill Grille Restaurant on 20th Street. You will not enter the event space through the restaurant so do not walk in the front door of The Rockhill Grille Restaurant. There is plenty of parking nearby or the streetcar is available and will drop you off 2 blocks away.
Cost: $45.00 per person. There are 100 spots available so this event is expected to sell out, so sign up early.

The E-Club Board has made the decision to cancel our regularly scheduled luncheons for the remainder of the 2020-2021 Club-year (through May 2021). With the current infection rate of the COVID-19 virus and the time projected to make significant progress on the vaccination program, the board’s consensus is that it is not an appropriate time to be holding our monthly luncheons. We will be monitoring the situation over the summer and hope to resume with our monthly luncheons in September 2021.
We continue to wish you all well as we all deal with these difficult and unusual times.
Thank you for your continued support of E-Club!
Engineers Club Board of Directors
As you are aware, the E-Club Board made the difficult decision to cancel our annual Shrimp Bingo Fundraiser planned for February 5, 2021. We considered postponing the event to later in the year or hosting a virtual Bingo event. Based on the current state of the pandemic situation and projections for possible impacts continuing well into 2021, postponing the event to later in the year was determined to be impractical and not a viable option. A virtual event was investigated, but would be completely out of character with the in-person social nature of Shrimp Bingo and was also considered not to be a viable alternative. As such, the Board made the decision not to schedule any alternative Shrimp Bingo events for 2021, but focus on planning for the 2022 event.
Annually, the Engineers Club of Kansas City has been able to provide scholarships to local students in ABET accredited programs. In 2020 we were able to grant scholarships totally $66,500. With the cancellation of the 2021 Shrimp Bingo event, our primary source of revenue for our Student Assistance Fund is eliminated for the year. Undergraduate engineering financial assistance is needed now more than ever.
In the absence of Shrimp Bingo in 2021, we hope everyone that planned on attending or sponsoring this year’s event will consider continuing their generosity with a donation to our scholarship fund. Donation checks can be mailed to our Shrimp Bingo Coordinator, Melissa Prenger at the following address:
Melissa Prenger
City of Prairie Village
3535 Somerset Dr.
Prairie Village, KS 66208
Please make checks payable to: Engineers Club of Kansas City
Please feel free to contact any of the Board of Directors for additional information or any questions.
We appreciate your past support of Shrimp Bingo and we look forward to reciting the oath together again in 2022.

SHRIMP BINGO 2021 UPDATE
The E-Club Board has made the difficult decision to cancel our annual Shrimp Bingo Fundraiser that had been planned for February 5, 2021. Considering the ongoing effects of the COVID 19 pandemic and all of the unknowns regarding possible meeting restrictions at the time of the event, it was determined that the health and financial risks were just too great to hold the event during the traditional time of year.
Limits placed on gatherings not only restricts the event’s ability to serve as the social event of the year for our profession but decimates its viability as a fundraiser for scholarships.
ECKC will continue to explore alternatives that will allow us to continue the social and fundraising missions of our club. We may elect to reschedule Shrimp Bingo 2021 to later in the year or hold a virtual event. Stay tuned for more information!
Every year, the Engineers Club of Kansas City distributes approximately $70,000 in scholarships to local students in ABET accredited programs. As a club it is a source of great pride, as an engineering community it is funding our future. Undergraduate engineering financial assistance is needed now more than ever. We hope everyone that planned on attending or sponsoring this year’s event will consider continuing their generosity to the scholarship fund in the absence of the Shrimp Bingo. We are working to develop a user-friendly way for both businesses and individuals to have the opportunity to make donations to the Scholarship Fund. Please stay tuned and watch your emails for additional information.
We appreciate your past support of Shrimp Bingo and we look forward to reciting the oath together again in the very near future.
